The role

Minax delivers engineering studies and technical advisory to the mining industry. Our client demand is now outrunning our capacity, and we are adding a senior pair of hands: an experienced mining engineer who can own client work end to end, guide our junior engineers, and help us build the tools that are changing how studies get done.

This is a role with real autonomy. You will run engagements with minimal oversight, be a credible technical voice in front of clients, and set the standard for the work our team produces. Part of your time goes to the engineering itself; part goes to mentoring the people around you; and part goes to working shoulder to shoulder with our developers to turn hard-won engineering judgment into methods and tools that make the whole firm faster and more rigorous – with the engineer in the loop, never designed out of it.

We are a small firm, which means the work you do is visible, the decisions are close, and the person who takes this seat helps shape where Minax goes next.

What you will do

• Lead mine planning and engineering study work across short-range, development, and long-range horizons, with minimal supervision.
• Act as a technical point of contact for clients – scoping, delivering, and standing behind the work.
• Mentor and review the work of junior engineers, raising the quality and consistency of what the team ships.
• Partner with our development team to specify, test, and refine internal engineering tools – as the domain authority who defines what "good" looks like.
• Bring rigour and first-principles thinking to problems that others solve by rule of thumb.
• Share your original thoughts and innovations with industry colleagues through conferences, seminars, the company website and social platforms.

What you bring

• A degree in mining engineering and a P.Eng. licence in Ontario (or eligibility to obtain one promptly).
• Meaningful mine planning experience – enough to work independently and to be trusted in front of a client. We care about depth and judgment more than a specific number of years.
• Strong command of a commercial mine planning suite. Deswik experience is a distinct advantage.
• Underground experience and the instinct that comes from seeing plans meet the ground.
• Genuine technical curiosity – comfort with data, scripting, or programming, and real interest in how better tools get built. You do not need to be a software engineer; you do need to want to work closely with them.
• The temperament to mentor: patient, clear, and generous with what you know.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Greater Sudbury. This role is on-site – the collaboration is the point.
